Charles Benefiel's intense self discipline and grisly realism inform his signature manic cathartic dot pattern technique, for him it's like an exorcism of personal and societal demons as well as human caprice in historic terms. He lives in Pittsburgh where he recently bought an old Victorian house that he restored. Presently he's typing and cutting out words from books in his attic on an old cranberry red Smith Corolla typewriter with doll parts hanging on the roof top above him surrounded by his grandmother's furniture, finally at home.
