Danielle Jacqui lives in Roquevaire, France. She is considered l'Artiste Singulier, which corresponds to the category of Outsider art known as New Invention. This was a term that Jean Dubuffet gave to art that fell between l'Art Brut, created by psychiatric patients, and mainstream contemporary art. Aided by years of experience as a second-hand dealer, Jacqui has assembled a large collection of buttons, glassware, fabrics, books and antiques, which she incorporates into her art along with whatever else she has on hand. Painting, sculpture and constructions of found objects transform her environment into one endless artwork. Her home is covered inside and out with her creations, as are the chairs, kitchen and even her clothes. Her late husband once said, "If I didn't keep moving, she would paint me too."
